Terry, Joseph, and Baby Jesus

While we were in the car the other day we were reminiscing about the girls when they were younger. They both went to a Christian Pre-School. This school had a Christmas play every year. One year Seanna was chosen to be Mary- but broke out into tears before the production because she liked Joseph and did not want him to know this. She was switched out and became lead angel.

Emma was listening intently to our conversation and said, "I was always so jealous of Terry in the play, I wonder why I could never be Terry."

"Terry?", I questioned.

"Yes Mom- Baby Jesus Mother."

"Do you mean Mary?"

"Yes- Terry, Mary- you know who I mean."

Seanna then quickly says, "Maybe they did not pick you because you didn't know her name."

-------

I know that she does know her name because she is the one that caused me the embarrassment of a lifetime with quipping off the facts about the nativity at Costco. If you are not familiar with that blog- skip over there- it is pretty funny.

-------

Anyway- Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving- that you didn't eat too much and that you got SOME shopping done. We got back to AR very late on Sunday. I had a conference call at 8 AM on Monday and it has been non- stop since then.

Now- I do have a favor to ask of you. I have to speak at a ladies Christmas banquet on Saturday night- I have my thought etc. But want you all to participate. What does Christmas Joy mean to you?

Please comment- Love your guts~

Christmas Joy means waking up to the smell of coffee already brewing, Marc always being the first one to say Merry Christmas, the way Jack looks in his fleece-y pjs barreling down the stairs -- the look of wonder in Ava's eyes at the sight of the Christmas tree lit up and most of all, knowing that Jesus gave us the best Christmas present every and that His gift lasts all year long!

Seeing how the kids will portray the Christmas story this year...My son loves to direct plays, therefore he engages all of the cousins in some sort of "presentation" for the family. He's very serious about this and makes them practice even when they'd rather play with their new presents. Since Grandma supplies the costumes and propping from all over the house, she's usually roped into helping out as well. Then we all sit silently (somewhat) and watch as the story unfolds and the angel comes to Mary, Joseph and finally the shephards to tell of the news of the birth of Jesus. In the past 17 years, so far, none of them have "outgrown" participating.

My greatest Christmas joy is GIVING, whether it be my time or a gift. I love to make others smile. ~tja~

I think Emma would have made a great Terry. She always makes me smile.

Christmas Joy? to me it's a combination of feelings, memories, smells, and excitement. Remembering some who are no longer with us, who brought so much joy while they were here. A grandmother who started shopping in January because she loved giving so much and didn't want to leave anyone out... Mom baking almost daily so she could give it all away... Performing "Jingle Bell Rock" with my brother while he played his crutch as a guitar... And looking forward to making memories with new members of the family!

Man! What a weighty thought you have inspired me to think about! :o) of course a rush of emotions have come in just thinking of what it means to me! Hmmm well...(this is me thinking) ~smiles~ Christmas Joy for me far supercedes the normal joy and excitement (of which I absoutly love all of these things) of decorations, shopping, egg nog, family get togethers, and all the fun stuff that I have partaken of through out my 30 Christmas's. It means spreading the love of God to someone else, (giving of myself) in time, money, food, gifts, attention, etc, in an extra special way. So with that I would say it is the giddy, crazy happiness that I get of seeing, or hearing that something great that I have been blessed to be a part of has affected a child, young person, or adult... whether in my family or in anothers, in such a way that they see Jesus, his love, and the love he has put in my heart for them.
okay so now I have to go blog about this! lol Love ya girlie! Shani
