Drought or Hydration? March 26, 2007

In looking over our back yard the grass is mostly brown. Eventually the rains will come. Scattered showers, downpours, thunderstorms, little sprinklings of precipitation. A little here, a lot there, but not before much watching, waiting, and praying for that rain. God always provides in His perfect time. Gardens will yield tomatoes, peppers, and a few squash. The grass eventually will return to its rightful green color, but it will take days, and in some places several months.

Where there is a drought it is hard to recover quickly.

Droughts spiritually don’t happen over night. They stem from missed services. At first it was a sick child, then a busy evening which turns into other activities taking precedence over HIM. Droughts occur in times when one has not been daily in prayer, and in the Word. All of these elements add up. The soul becomes more and more dehydrated. Weariness, grouchiness, anxiousness, complaining, impatience, speculation all stems from personal droughts.

The difference between my dry thirsty backyard and a thirsty heart is that we don’t have to wait for rain. God doesn’t become distant- we do. So how do you end a drought?

Go to him. The living water, the source. Take your dry thirsty soul, sit, and drink. And when your lips are moist from droplets of water - know that this pure living water did not move. It was there all the time.

Drink fully today!! He longs for you.
